About the Open Database Project

The Open Database Project is sponsored by eCriteria, The Web's Database Service provider, www.eCriteria.net. The goal of the project is to provide an open and free environment whereby database content may be quickly and easily published and shared by interested individuals and organizations around the world. The project can be viewed as a global "data exchange" facility.

In order to access the information contained in the project's data store, simply select a Business or Personal category, select the desired database from the list, enter search selection criteria, and view the results. You can also search for databases by entering a keyword in the search box provided on the homepage. If the Data Author permits, you also may download the search results to your local desktop PC, and use the data for whatever purpose you wish.

If you wish to publish your own databases, you must first become an eCriteria member. eCriteria offers FREE Standard Memberships for people wishing to participate in the project. Click on the link above, proceed to the registration page, and start publishing databases. It's easy to publish web databases with eCriteria. You may upload data from your desktop PC (from Excel, Access, etc.), or create new databases, using our easy-to-use Web Database Publishing Wizard. There is no programming or database knowledge required, and the entire process only takes 15 minutes.  Note that only databases marked as "public" by the Data Author are visible to the project.

Another service we offer is the ability to embed our Open Database Project keyword search box into your own website, giving you the opportunity to add dynamic new content. You do not have to publish any data to use the project's data on your site.

We hope you find the Open Database Project a useful experiment in global collaboration with database content. Your feedback and comments are very welcome. Enjoy!
