How To Tips

Tip #1: Link webpages to your database
You can link to other Web pages on your website from your eCriteria database by simply using the eCriteria Hyperlink field datatype. This is useful for database records that function to point to Web pages that contain images and other information that you do not want to store in the database. Check out how one eCriteria member utilized this feature to create a professional coffeehouse directory! www.coffeehousenetwork.com.

Tip #2: Modify the HTML code in your custom search criteria page
If you use the Premium or Enterprise account feature to generate HTML form code for your database search criteria page, you can modify or remove search criteria fields to customize the way people can search your database. You can also, change the HTML control type for some fields (e.g. use checkboxes instead of text fields), add pull-down lists, add graphic images, etc. Just edit the HTML in your favorite HTML editor before transferring the page to your Web server.

Tip #3: Customize the layout of your search results
eCriteria offers three different formats for your search results that you can select in the "Update Database Properties" area:

(1) Table view
-perfect for databases that will normally return multiple results
-works well with databases that contain few fields
-good for printing multiple records at a time

(2) Form view
-perfect for databases that will normally return only a few results
-works well with databases that contain few or very many fields
-good for printing one record at a time

(3) Summary view
-perfect for databases that will normally return many results that could be quickly compared by only seeing a selected number of fields
-contains a "View Record" link that takes the user to view the complete record
-works well with databases that contain many fields
-good for printing summaries of multiple records at a time, or complete records one at a time

Tip #4: Receive e-mail notification for new records
Whenever someone posts to your data entry form, you can receive a notification via email that you should login to eCriteria to check your database. This is very handy for our Premium and Enterprise customers that may receive hundreds of new entries a day, and want to have up-to-the-second information about the status of their database.
