Create Data-Driven Java Applets With eCriteria
Written by Ms. Camille Jacks, PR Manager

Culver City, Calif. – June 16, 2001 – eCriteria is pleased to announce a newly released technical feature addressing the needs of beginning Java developers. eCriteria members may now easily connect to eCriteria web databases via Java applets. Data-driven Java applets fill a definite void for low-end Java developers just getting acquainted with the popular object oriented programming language from Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW). Without eCriteria, Java programmers must select, purchase, and install a relational database at their ISP, and learn a complex object hierarchy called Java Database Connectivity (JDBC). This process is typically beyond a novice Java programmer’s ability. The eCriteria website is located at www.eCriteria.net, where a full demo of the eCriteria facility is provided.

With eCriteria, Java developers may solve simple database requirements by using a Java applet for collecting database search criteria and displaying search results, or using a Java-based data entry form for entering new records into a web database. A Java developer begins with the eCriteria Web Database Publishing Wizard process to create the web database. The entire process takes less than 15 minutes without any prior database knowledge. Then, using sample Java code provided at the eCriteria website, the developer may customize the applet code to interface to the eCriteria database.

The new Java feature is available to eCriteria Premium Members. Complete information about creating Java web database interfaces with eCriteria, complete with demo applets, can be found at: www.ecriteria.net/ecriteria/How_To_JavaApplets.asp. eCriteria offers a free 30 day trial membership with full Premium Member features without requiring credit card information. To continue to take advantage of Premium Member features past the 30 day limit, members may upgrade any time during the trial period.

A Word From the CEO

“The Java interface for eCriteria is an exciting addition to our product,” says Dan D. Gutierrez, eCriteria’s founder and CEO. “The Java developer community is constantly growing worldwide, but taking the next step towards adding database functionality, even very simple features, is a daunting task for beginners. With eCriteria, developers can address database requirements much more quickly and inexpensively than before.”
