Palm, Inc. was founded in 1992 and acquired by U.S.
Robotics Corporation in 1995. In 1996 Palm, Inc. introduced the Pilot 1000 and Pilot
5000 products that led the resurgence of handheld computing. In June of 1997, Palm
Inc. became a subsidiary of 3Com Corp. Two years later, the Palm subsidiary became
an independent publicly traded company, now the focus of the PDA industry and the Palm
Pilot product line. With this new structuring, Palm will be able to focus on
emerging strategic market segments for the handheld computing arena involving: handheld
operating system licensing, enterprise computing solutions, wireless Internet services,
portal sites, and Palm branded devices.
eCriteria is a new Internet start-up venture sponsored by AMULET
Development Corp., a Web database and e-commerce development firm.
Palm, Inc. serves as the leading global provider of handheld
computing products and provides developers with an industry standard platform for creating
world-class mobile solutions. The top selling Palm products are equipped with a
comprehensive suite of personal information management (PIM) software, including datebook,
address book, expense management software, calculator, note-taking applications, games,
and HotSync technology. The Palm VII device also offers wireless connections
to the Internet and the Web. With eCriteria, data authors may import Palm Pilot
application data content as a searchable Web database. In addition, eCriteria is now
working on a "web clipping" application to run on wireless enabled Palm devices,
providing user access to searchable Web databases.
A Word from the CEO
"Our new affiliation with Palm Inc. represents our strategic
entry into the wireless marketplace and reflects our desire to broaden the reach of our
DSP so our users always may be connected with their data," says eCriteria founder and
CEO, Dan D. Gutierrez. "We also plan to use our Palm Inc. technology
partnership to forge new relationships with the wireless ISPs."
About eCriteria
eCriteria defines a new genre of Database Service Provider (DSP),
providing a facility for quick and easy publishing of "shrinkwrap" Web
databases. eCriteria requires no programming or knowledge of databases. Using
the Web Database Publishing Wizard, Data Authors may create their own Web databases in 10
minutes or less.
